Every form of racing is exciting, and every form of racing is dangerous. Even “easy” racing sports like drag racing are full of very technical details, and the slightest error or over-correction could spell disaster. If you think otherwise, then you obviously have never spent time trying to tackle the quarter-mile. If you need proof that these guys are legitimate drivers and their chosen racing sport is more difficult than it looks, check out this video below.

This clip shows a twin-turbo Fox Body at the I29 Dragway No-Prep race, when the lights flip, the car gets a rough launch, and gets a bit sideways. The driver then fights the car the whole way and goes through the 1/8 mile mark in a full-on drift. There is no contact with the wall, and the car escapes unscathed. Tell me how “some dumb redneck who drives in a straight-line” has the skill to handle something like that. It has to do with being a real driver, not some stereotype.

This is as real as racing gets, and it’s amazing. Who knows, maybe Drag Drifting will become the newest craze?
