Once upon a time, in 1964...

Today marks the first day Ford began producing the Mustang some 48 years ago. In just two years the FoMoCo managed to sell over a million cars. Mind you, this was in 1964, making the number even more impressive. But it's certainly not as shocking as the original sticker price of $2368.

Those were the days, huh? Celebrate the history of Ford's first pony car in the forums!

Steve Gallihugh (Sun, 11 Mar 2012 09:29:49 -0700): What a great price!
Rachel White (Sun, 11 Mar 2012 10:49:53 -0700): My Dad and family flew from HI to Detroit and picked up some of the new 1965 mustangs off of the line. They were pretty cars, powerful and had more leg room in them than the new ones do now. They don't make them like they used to and you could fix them yourself then. No computer pieces. Just carburators......butterfly valves.....
Nick Sherrill (Thu, 15 Mar 2012 18:09:11 -0700): Happy birthday mustangs.
(Mon, 28 May 2012 20:40:31 -0700): At sixteen years old, I got to drive a 1965 Mustang convertible for a day. I have never forgotten the experience, and finally bought my own 2013 Mustang convertible. The new one is a much better car, but I'd gladly trade for that '65 any day!
