A well-designed compound-boost setup is truly a force to be reckoned with because it can make massive bottom-end torque AND equally impressive top-end horsepower. Want proof? Have a look at the impressive video below.

Before you get swept up in that though, let’s talk about what exactly compound boost means. It’s using both a supercharger and a turbocharger (or two) together. Yep, the exhaust lights the turbos, which then feed the blower, and then together the two forms of forced induction feed the motor.

Compound boost is a bit unorthodox, and ultimately the supercharger can become a restriction, but as this Terminator Cobra proves, it’s easy to make a claimed 1200hp and over 1200lb-ft at the wheels with the right setup. Seriously, the right setup isn’t all that complicated. It features a Teksid aluminum block filled with a billet crank and rods along with Diamond pistons and ported stock heads. As for the boost portions of the equation, it uses a pair of 76mm turbos and a ported stock Eaton blower. The power is fed through a TH400 automatic transmission, which is hooked to Gear Vendors’ overdrive unit.

As you’ll see in the video, not only was the Compound-boost Cobra capable of 175+ mph in the half-mile at the Texas Invitational, but it had so much torque and traction that it hole-shotted every opponent so badly that only the fastest cars could chase it down before the finish. In all honesty, it accelerated so fiercely at the hit that it took cars with at least another 250 hp to run it down!
