It isn’t everyday that you get to ride shotgun in a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 on Germany’s famed Nurburgring, which has long been considered one of the most challenging tracks in the world.

So, when I came across a video posted in a SVTPerformance.com report that gives you a front seat view of of the action, I figured it’d be eight minutes well spent–and that it is.

In fact, anyone who enjoys the thrill of watching an American muscle car revving on a track more commonly known for nameplates the likes of Porsche will probably be hitting the replay button a few times.

Aside from a few tight spots where you get the sense that a lighter body would have improved the car’s cornering capabilities, the Shelby GT500’s run on the circuit is pretty impressive. In fact, while no official time for the car has been released, the SVTPerformance.com report estimates that the car clocked the lap in 7:40, faster than the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1’s 7:41 time.

Admitting that the Shelby GT’500’s calculations are a “rough” estimate, the article goes on to note that the high-performance Mustang was only a few seconds behind the Camaro Z/28, which clocked a lap time of 7:37.5 on the circuit.

It’s all further confirmation that Ford probably should rethink those plans to discontinue the Shelby GT500 for the 2015 model.

Check out the video below.
