The 2011 Shelby GT500 Convertible carries over the external styling
from the 2010 Ford Mustang models but with new colors, stripes,
headlights, wheels, engine block and the SVT Performance package make
the new GT500 convertible one of the hottest droptops on the market.
The 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is available in 7 colors: Grabber
Blue, Performance White, Kona Blue Metallic, Race Red, Black, Sterling
Grey Metallic and Ingot Silver Metallic and these paint options can be
paired with a spread of accent colors including Black, White, Silver,
Red and Grabber Blue. Ford does offer some restrictions on which colors
can be matched with which accents to save those who are fashion
impaired. HID projection style headlights were made available in 2010
and based on the popularity of this option, Ford has made them standard
for the 2011 Shelby GT500 convertible.
While the coupe and convertible version of the Shelby GT500 share
most features other than the roofline, the 2010 GT500 came with 19″
wheels where the convertibles came with 18″ standard wheels. For 2011,
Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) has equipped with GT500 convertible
with standard 19″ wheels and high performance tires similar to those
found on the GT500 coupe.
The most talked about feature of the 2011 Shelby GT500 convertible is
the new aluminum engine block. The 5.4L supercharged V8 is very
similar to the engine found in the 2010 GT500 models but the 2011 GT500
engine uses an all aluminum engine block, allowing this version of the
engine to weigh 102lbs less than the 2010 5.4L Shelby Cobra engine while
making 10 extra horsepower. This brings the total output of the 2011
Shelby GT500 convertible to 550 horsepower and 510lb-ft of torque and
thanks to the tuning efforts by Ford’s SVT division the 2011 GT500 is
the first modern Shelby to not be faced with the gas guzzler tax.
Finally, the 2011 Shelby GT500 convertible is available with the new
SVT Performance package (Code 67F). This $3,495 package adds a variety
of performance components to make your 2011 GT500 track-ready without
compromising daily driving comforts. A 3.73 limited slip rear
differential is added over the standard 3.55 unit, allowing for better
low end acceleration and the limited slip differential helps to make the
most use of the GT500’s power. The SVT Performance package also helps
with traction by adding a set of special 20 inch wheels in the back and
19 inch wheels up front, all wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar
tires. Next, the SVT Performance package adds specially tuned shocks
and springs all around to improve the handling and control of the 2011
GT500 convertible and for fine tuning the handling on the track, a
Gurney wing allows for subtle adjustments to the GT500s aerodynamics.
Finally, a special shift knob and SVT Performance package-specific
stripes give the factory modified 2011 GT500 convertibles a more unique
look compared to the standard GT500 models.
