2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Coupe Preview
The 2011 Shelby GT500 Coupe bears a striking resemblance to the 2010
GT500 models of the Ford Mustang but a handful of new color and stripe
options, new headlights, a new aluminum engine block, a glass roof
option and the new SVT Performance package made for big news at the 2010
Chicago Auto Show.
The 2011 Shelby GT500 version of the Ford Mustang is available in 7
colors; Grabber Blue, Performance White, Kona Blue Metallic, Race Red,
Black, Sterling Grey Metallic and Ingot Silver Metallic can be coupled
with a variety of accent colors including Black, White, Silver, Red and
HID projection headlights are available across the Ford
Mustang lineup but for 2011, these ultra bright headlights are standard
for the Shelby GT500 Coupe.
The glass roof option was first seen at SEMA as an aftermarket
modification for the Mustang and in 2010 Ford introduced the glass roof
as a factory option for the Mustang and Mustang GT. The glass roofline
has proven to be a popular selection so the 2011 Shelby GT500 gets in on
the see-through roof fun with an expected price of around $2,000.
The most exciting feature of the 2011 Shelby GT500 is the new
aluminum engine block. This 5.4L supercharged engine is similar to the
previous version but in an effort to cut weight, the new SVT 5.4L uses
an aluminum engine block – cutting 102lbs from the engine. Also for
2011, the SVT engineers have squeezed out 10 more horsepower bringing
the output of the GT500 to 550 horsepower and 510lb-ft of torque.
Finally, the 2011 Shelby GT500 is available with the SVT Performance
package (code 67F). Ford’s performance division designed this package
to turn your new GT500 into a track-ready street car. This begins with a
3.73 limited slip rear differential turning the SVT Performance
package-unique wheels measuring 20 inches on the rear axle and 19 inches
up front all wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. Next, the
SVT Performance package offers specially tuned springs and shocks at all
four corners to improving the handling and to help these specially
equipped Mustangs stand out, the SVT Performance package includes a
unique stripe package and shift knob. Finally, 67F package adds the
unique Gurney wing to the GT500, allowing for fine tuning of the car’s
aerodynamics. The SVT Performance package carries an MSRP of $3,495.
