Red Hot 2018 Ford Mustang Steals the Limelight at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Along With Other Sizzling Pony Cars

We can all agree that the 2018 Ford Mustang didn’t make the most buzz-worthy debut of all times. In fact, it was pretty terrible. Ford decided to keep the new Mustang hostage from the world’s media during the press preview of the North American International Auto Show, and unveiled it a week later in front of the general public. Cool? Maybe for the folks in attendance that day. Smart? Most definitely not.

Mustang Forums was on site at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, where things went much better. We were more than excited to get in front of the new pony car for the first time. Despite it being revealed in Detroit a month ago, of course. So, what’s it like? Does it look better or worse than it does in the photos? Does it totally suck? Is it the best thing that’s ever happened to human kind? These are things you’re most likely wondering about, and we will do our best to answer.

Up Close and Personal

In the middle of a massive Ford booth, surrounded by dozens of cars and trucks, the 2018 Mustang sat quietly soaking in the limelight. Separated from curious and pesky reporters and photographers via guard rail, the pony car stared at the bleak Midwest through its stylish new eyes.

Displayed in bright red for the world to see, the new Mustang looked pretty-darn hot. Yes, we said it. Chiseled, agile, and very American is how the 2018 year model looks… from the front. The redesigned grille looks on-point, as does the new hood, front bumper — even the Lamborghini-esque front lip. And yes, the headlights, too.

The business-end of the Mustang, meaning the rear-end, also looks sexy. The minor tweaks that were made all around to tie in the new front-fascia look are gratuitous. Unfortunately, what goes up must come down, and as we walked to the side of the Mustang, we quickly discovered its worst angle.

The same hood design that awards its muscular look from the front, makes it look stubby and bloated from the side. The 2018 Mustang’s silhouette is severely affected by this, and therefore brings the sex-appeal of the whole way down. Ford either overlooked this, or simply didn’t care.

In this particular car’s defense, the tire and wheel package installed wasn’t all too attractive either. Perhaps that didn’t help the overall look at all, but we will have to wait to find out.
