‘Back to the Future’ Time Machine Could Have Been a Mustang
Yesterday, we celebrated the date October 21, 2015, as made famous by the movie, Back to the Future. But here’s a bit of BTTF trivia that I bet a lot of people weren’t aware of.
Although the DeLorean took center stage in the trilogy, Doc Brown’s famous time machine almost wound up being a Mustang, according to an Ad Week report.
Well, sort of.
As the story goes, a product placement coordinator tried to convince the film’s writer, Bob Gale, to ditch the DeLorean for the Ford pony car.
“He tried to convince me to change the DeLorean to a Mustang because Ford Motor Company would give us money,” Gale said. “I said, ‘No, no, no, Doc Brown doesn’t drive a f***ing Mustang.’ It had to be a DeLorean. A DeLorean was cool. I have nothing against Mustangs, but nothing is as cool as a DeLorean. A Ford Mustang? Does Doc Brown look like the kind of guy who would drive a Ford Mustang? I’m sorry, no.”
I don’t know, Doc Brown seems cool enough to be a Mustang guy, if you ask me. And if the time machine was a Mustang, it certainly would have hit 88 mph sooner.
