When it comes to racing, you better go through that checklist of safety features because you’ll never know when it will come in handy and save you from injury or, worse yet, death. Some things can happen in the blink of an eye. As much of a hassle it may be, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
One of the safety equipment that can save you is the roll cage. Although, it’s kind of a pain to install, it’s definitely worth it. Just ask Steve Butscher. He designed his very own roll cage and it definitely came in handy during his crazy crash at Willow Springs in his Fox Body Mustang.
Steve was racing at Willow Springs hitting speeds of 130, if not more, when he moved over too far hitting the dirt with his tires. In the video, he fights to regain control of the situation and just as he almost has it under control, but goes left as the course continues on to the right and disaster strikes. He slides through the dirt for awhile ultimately hitting a dirt wall right before a stone wall. That’s when we see the Fox fly about 50 – 60 feet before ricocheting off the wall, flipping over and finally coming to a rest. Luckily Steve comes out of the wreckage bruised but uninjured for the most part. He has his very own roll cage to thank among other safety features. Check out the video!
