Poll Results: The Five All-Time Greatest Special Edition Mustangs! #4
The 1965 Shelby GT350
In fourth place, with roughly 17% of the vote, was the 1965 Shelby GT350. This was the car which first put the Shelby name–and his Midas touch–on the mighty Ford Mustang.
And while the models Carroll Shelby’s team first turned wrenches on are nowhere near as mighty as the Mustangs of today, these early Shelby models were groundbreaking nevertheless. Most importantly, they showed Ford there was a market for more expensive, higher performance Ponies.
It’s not an overstatement to say that every performance-oriented Mustang owes its existence to the ’65 GT350.
