How To Change the Oil for your Mustang V6

By -

A Mustang V6 Is a special car that requires a good deal of
care and attention in order to keep it functioning properly. If you own
one of these vehicles, you owe it to the continued longevity of the car
to change out the oil periodically. This will help to keep the engine
working smoothly, regardless of how often you drive the car. ideally,
you should plan to change the oil in your Mustang V6 every 3000 miles or
so, although this number is only an estimate; check on the oil levels
manually to see when they’re running low and so you’ll know when to
change the oil.

Changing your own oil is not only cheaper and faster than taking your
car to a service station, but it also allows you the opportunity to
learn about the inner workings of your car. Read on for some step by
step guidelines to changing the oil in your Mustang V6 at home.

Step 1 — Gather the Materials

You’ll need the following materials in order to change the oil in your Mustang V6 properly:

  • New oil filter
  • New oil packages
  • Oil collection pan
  • Jack stand set
  • Funnel
  • Newspapers
  • Paper towels
  • Wrench set

Step 2 — Prep the Area

Begin by jacking the front end of your Mustang V6 up on the jack
stands so that you have more room in which to work. Then open up the
hood on the car and prop it up with the attached bar. Locate the oil
container area and place a set of newspapers on the ground beneath it to
catch any spills or drips that should fall.

Step 3 — Drain the Oil

Next, locate the oil drain plug and place your collection pan just
underneath it. Unscrew the oil drain plug by hand so that you can
collect allof the used oil, which will start to flow out immediately.
Allow several minutes for all of the oil to drain from the car. Once
that is complete, use paper towels to carefully clean in and around the
drain plug before you continue.

Step 4 — Change the Filter

Use the wrench to unscrew the oil filter, which is located just next
to the oil drain plug. You should then remove the oil filter by hand and
examine it. Although you won’t need to change the filter every time
that you replace the oil, it’s a good idea to check it every time for
signs of damage. If the filter appears to be clogged with debris, or if
you see signs of wear and tear, it’s a good idea to throw it out and to
replace it with a new filter. otherwise, simply reattach the old filter
to the vehicle.

Step 5 — Fill with New Oil

Close up the drain plug and insert a funnel into the top of the oil
container in the Mustang V6. Check how many quarts of oil you’ll need on
the oil packaging and then insert that many quarts into the oil gasket
system. It’s a good idea to allow several minutes for the oil to drain
into the car container completely once again. After that’s complete,
close up the oil container and the hood and then lower the V6 vehicle
off of the jack stands.

Before you start up the car again it’s a good idea to check on the
oil levels by hand. Use a dipstick to make sure that you have a proper
amount of oil. If you don’t, be sure to add a bit more or to drain some
of the excess oil, depending upon your reading. Once it’s all in order,
you’re safe to turn the vehicle on again.

You can typically find all of the items and materials that you’ll
need for this project at a local hardware store or auto body shop. Ask
a  mechanic for more advice on how to change the oil.
