This Mustang is Magically Quick

Usually when you have a car set up for drag racing, it has small rims and fat tires. It’s just simple physics. It’ll be easier for you to hook up with the road if your contact patches on it are larger. That’s why you don’t see top fuel drag racers with 22-inch rims running four seconds flat.

However, just this year, there seemed to be a tear in the fabric of time and space where all physics went out the window and something ridiculous happened. Watch this video first, then we’ll discuss it.

That was a 2014 Mustang GT with 20-inch rims running the drag strip in 8.84 seconds at 160 miles per hour. Somehow, the guys over at Lund Racing managed to get this car to hook up and go all the way down the quarter mile without blowing its tires off.

How did Lund Racing accomplish this impossible task? I’m guessing sorcery. That’s the only explanation that would make sense of this Mustang’s shockingly low time.
