New Edge Dragster Wheelstands Whole Track

Wheels Up Some of the Way Down the Track Is Impressive, but the Full Eighth-Mile?

If a drag racer were to ever win a race purely by style points, it’d be JR Pines in this fantastic winning run from the Lights Out 8 event. Coming off the line at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Georgia, this bright white New Edge went vertical almost instantly.

From the get-go, it’s clear that there’s more motor under the hood than most mere mortals can contend with. The nose floats down at about half-track, as the transmission shifts, and bounces momentarily before heading back skyward. The headlights then stay pointed up in the air for the remainder of the sprint to the finish. The nose finally comes crashing down, spitting sparks and bouncing a few more times on coast down.

Even with all the wind resistance from being up in the air like that, the car managed to cross the timing beacon at a whopping 122 miles per hour. Even more astonishing, perhaps, is the 5.01-second elapsed time that Pines managed to pull off.

It’s generally unwise to continue pedaling a wheely-ing car, as evidenced by the next row’s Fox Mustang backing off the gas to avoid any shenanigans. But Pines somehow pulled this one off not once, but twice. Maybe it’s excellent driving, maybe it’s luck. In any case it looks damn cool.

In case you needed a second view of this event, here you go! In the video below, it’s a little more evident that Pines’ front wheels definitely dipped the pavement. But more than that, he’s full-on sideways, on two wheels, as he crosses the finish line. Wheels-up is a really cool look, and it certainly grabs the attention of the gathered masses, but running down the track at over 100 miles an hour with no steering inputs is beyond ballsy, to say the least.
