Prepare to have your minds blown, and possibly not in the best way possible. We have some news concerning the next generation Mustang GT500 that definitely will concern a few of you. According to Automobile, the new GT500 may not use a supercharged V8, but rather a detuned version of the 3.5L EcoBoost motor found in the upcoming Ford GT. Now everyone can freak out.

First off though, the 3.5L twin-turbocharged motor will supposedly send over 600 horsepower to the rear wheels and be fitted with a manual transmission. Thanks to that motor though, the new GT500 will be significantly lighter than the last generation, and even its contemporary Coyote powered brethren.

With that, Ford is supposedly also planning on heavily using carbon fiber throughout the structure of the new GT500 in order to give it more performance, and increase its mpg ratings.

What do you all think of this new rumor, would you be okay with a detuned Ford GT motor being in a Mustang? Or should Ford just supercharge the 5.4L FPL motor from the Shelby twins and call it a day?
