2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R (1)

We’re still months away from getting our hands on the new Shelby GT350 Mustang twins, however slowly but surely, small pieces of information have been leaking out of the Blue Oval, including a rather interesting comment made by Ford’s Shelby Brand Manager, Jim Owens.

A few days ago, at an event at the Texas World Speedway, Mustang6g caught up with Owens, where he revealed that the new Shelby GT350 will have at least 100 horsepower per liter, which should make for at least 520 horsepower — 15 horsepower over the Camaro Z/28. Owens also implied that the pricing proposal will head out for approval on April 2nd, and that the 8,250rpm redline will stay with the production car.

However, it’s Owens’s comments on production numbers that have us truly interested: “It would be safe to say it would be somewhere between a Boss 302 number and the current GT500 production number and I wouldn’t be surprised if the R might be akin to… the Leguna Seca version.”

That means at least a few thousand of these Mustang’s will be built. But we don’t expect they’ll take long to sell.
