What’s the formula for pulling off a winning Mustang at an all-Ford event?

Well, apparently having a deep connection to the nameplate, for starters, as evidenced by this 1969 Mustang owned by Tim Spencer of Alabama, which won Best Ford in the Ford at Shades 2016 awards. Spencer’s dad was a longtime mechanic for Ford, so the idea of picking anything but a Mustang as a new project was pretty much a non-starter, as highlighted by a recent Hot Rod story.

After deciding on the vehicle, Spencer turned to Goolsby Customs in Hueytown, Alabama with the goal of creating a cool modern take on the ’69 muscle car. And the rest is pretty much history.

The specs on the Mustang include an enhanced suspension, modern driveline, and a number of other internal body modifications. The exterior sports a few cool mods as well, including machined inserts in the front fenders and the tops of the quarter panels, as well as polished and brushed chrome plating accents. But it’s the beauty in how everything comes together that really makes this Mustang special.
