It sounds like ProDrive Racing Australia (PRA) might be opting for a new set of wheels.

Word has it that the racing team is considering the Mustang as its 2018 Supercars series replacement vehicle. PRA is expected to make a final decision on the idea by early next year, in order to allow for time to create an all-new aero package for their next race car when the 2018 Supercars season opens.

But PRA team boss Tim Edwards said there are a number of things to consider before finalizing the Mustang as the team’s next race car.

“…it’s not as easy as saying ‘we want to race Mustangs next season’, click our fingers, and it happens,” Edwards told MotorSports. “It’s a conversation we need to be having with Ford, and we need to work through it with the category, because there is the homologation of a two-door car, which has not been done yet.”

We’ll certainly be keeping our fingers crossed that it all pans out. After all, the more Mustangs on the world’s racing circuits, the better.
