It’s official. The 2015 Mustang will come to the good ‘ol US of A with a four-cylinder Ecoboost option. The kicker? It’s probably not going to be the base model engine.
This confirmation comes from the guys at Road and Track, so we’ll see if they’re actually right later on. But if they are, that means this’ll be the first time the Mustang has been offered with a four banger since the fox-body days. The last time the Mustang came factory with a turbo of any kind was the SVO.
Interestingly, Road and Track says the new four cylinder eco-boost will be a 2.3 liter just like the Cobra of old. That’s ever more convincing that this ecoboosted ‘Stang will slot over the V6 and below the GT. Still, that would mean the engine would be making more than 300 hp. Even with 2.3 liters of displacement, that’s a lot of boost. The question is: Will it lag?
We’ll have to wait and see what Ford actually comes out with in the coming months ahead of the Mustangs 50th anniversary. Heck, we’ don’t even know what the car really looks like. What I do know, is that 2015 really can’t come soon enough.
