Saleen Debuts Black Label Mustang
At the beginning of this year, Saleen was in some very difficult financial troubles. Steve Saleen, the founder of the company, had once again returned, and seemed to crash the company once again. However, that didn’t stop Saleen from showcasing its newest creation, the Saleen 302 Black Label Mustang. But for a time, we thought we’d never see the car outside of line drawings. That is until Saleen debuted the new car yesterday.
I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not exactly sure how Saleen pulled off building this car. Last we heard, the company was down to $7,000 in their bank accounts with bills and creditors knocking on their doors for back payment. This Black Label Mustang is a unicorn pretty much, or maybe Frankenstein’s monster, since it never should’ve been built.
However, it’s here now, so let’s drool all over it! The Saleen 302 Black Label Mustang is powered by a stroked and supercharged 5.0L Coyote V8 that makes a whopping 730 horsepower and 600lb-ft of torque. The suspension has also been tuned with Saleen S4 springs, shocks, a new set of sway bars, and solid bushings. Add to that a set of 20-inch wheels with 275 tires on all four corners and you’ve got one of the most capable Saleen’s ever built.
The interior has been redone as well, with new leather, contrast stitches, and new gauges and badges.
All in all, the cost for one of these Saleen Black Label Mustangs comes to a staggering $73,214. However, it will only cost you $2,015 to secure your deposit for one of these beauties. Here’s the only thing that really strikes me as odd, though: at the press conference, Steve Saleen started the pony car up without any problem, except that afterwards, they didn’t let anyone see the engine bay. That definitely strikes us as a bit odd, so order at your own risk.
