How efficient is the Mustang’s 5.0L V8? Well apparently, efficient enough for Ford to enter a convertible model of the car into the MPG Marathon taking place October 18 and 19.

Now, before you start questioning why Ford would enter a 415-horsepower car with 391 lb.-ft. of torque into the MPG Marathon, know this: the event is as much about driving style as it is about eco-friendly vehicles, according to the organizers.

More specifically, the contest is aimed at testing how well a car can improve its average MPG, which in the case of the Mustang is 20 MPG, according to Opp Trends. Of course, an important part of the formula lies in who will be piloting the car in the marathon.

That said, it’s pretty safe to say that the Mustang is in good hands, given that the Ford rally crew driving the car won the MPG Marathon back in 2012 behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta ECOnetic 1.6 TDCi.
