double clutch

Double clutching, rev matching, heel and toe shifting — call it whatever you want to call it, but mastering the art of multitasking with your feet while traveling at a high rate of speed is bloody hard.

Nowadays, kids have it easy. Most modern performance cars with semi-automatic transmissions and paddle shifters do all the work. Heck, even some manual transmissions are electronically programmed to “blip” the throttle, or “rev-match” during downshifts, all to recreate classic heel and toe shifting, and squeeze every ounce of performance out of the car.

The video below goes to great depths about the mechanics behind double clutching — how to do it, and why? You should be glad it’s on video, because reading all that information would be extremely boring and excruciatingly painful.

Enjoy the lesson, and make sure to find a safe place to practice your very own double clutching technique!
