If there’s one thing you never, ever want to do, it’s attempting to scam a Mustang owner who is also a war vet, and then have others find out about it.

Take, for example, the story of 95-year-old Harry Donovan, who piloted a B-17 in 23 missions over Germany during World War II.

When reports surfaced about the veteran being scammed by a man claiming he’d restore Donovan’s ‘67 Mustang, it prompted a wave of support, as highlighted in an Indy Star report. Many of those supporters were on hand for a recent fundraiser in Indiana, which helped to raise $4,000 to help get the veteran’s Mustang restored. One man even showed up with a 1970’s Ford 302 engine to donate to the restoration project.

Elsewhere, a man from New Jersey offered a couple of transmissions. And a GoFundMe Account detailing Donovan’s story has raised $14,000 for the effort, with funds coming in from as far as Europe. All of which will be used to help get Donovan’s Mustang restored by The Finer Details shop, which is donating its time to the project.

That, my friends, is the power of appreciation when it comes to a veteran and his Mustang.
