Default How do you remove the governor

How do you remove the governor from a 98 v6? i want to know so when i change the rear end gears im not stuck at a top speed of 85mph.

well unless you currently top out at like 100, which could be so, i doubt you'll ever really be affected by the top end loss. basically i'm not so sure that a removal is necessary if it's even possible. but don't chips do that?

i top out at 110 but i have done the math if i do a 4.10 gear ratio in the rear end gear il only b able to top out at 85 so if anyone can help me with the governor how to remove it or whatever please help and thanks for you input Jugador

get 3.73's...i think 98's come with 2.27's if i'm not mistaken. and you can feel a big difference between 2.73 to 3.73 so i know 2.27 would feel a mad kick and you'd still have some top speed left.

you have to get a chip programmed to change the rev limiter. That's the only way to change it. You'll also want the chip when you get the new gears installed to calibrate your speedo.

4.10 is way too much for a sixer. i like 3.55, ive had 3.55 and 3.73, and i like it better. you can get the chip reprogrammed to have no governor, but unless you get rubber that can go that fast, its a real bad idea to get the gov. lifted. those things are there for a reason. you need a 23 tooth speedo gear for either 3.55 or 3.73 gears

oh yeah the 98 has 2.78 gears. wierd enough ratio, but it does. when i swithched out the rears, the little tag thing on there said it was 2.78.

i switched rears myself, and i had the speedo gears done at aamco and the chip done at a local shop
