HEI dist for 5.0
Anyone think this would be a descent dizzy for a carbed roller 302? Should the msd 6a work it?

RE: HEI dist for 5.0
you don't think the hardened steel gear would hold up with the roller? It looks pretty nice for $100 bucks brand new and shipped. but 100 bucks for a brand new billet dist sounds kinda cheezy to me. I may try it out anyway. im gonna rebuild my motor and convert to carb setup, so it may be a while before i get to use it.
Do you think i should go with the dura spark style dizzy, or go HEI with this one?

When I converted mine I ordered an MSD Pro Billet Distributor which also came with a steel gear and I had to change it. The gear is gonna run you between $30-$50 depending on what brand you get

cool.. thanx! i'll swap the gear out before i drop it in then to save some problems. Back to my other question:
Should i go with this HEI unit for $100 bucks, or go with the old ford duraspark style distributor for like $140? They have about the same statistics on paper, but which one do you think would be better?

RE: HEI dist for 5.0
Well, there is advantages and disadvantages to both. The HEI has the coil in the cap and and aftermarket HEI coils are more expensive than a Blaster 2 coil. But the HEI terminals are spread out more. It's really just a personal preference. I personally liked my MSD disrtibutor with the mechanical advance.

Will my MSD TFI Coil work with either of them? also i wanted the vacum advance to get a little bit of fuel economy from it. I Think the dura spark dizzy had adjustable mechanical AND vacum advance.

It wont work with the HEI for sure unless you get a this http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=17475

RE: HEI dist for 5.0
So my TFI coil will work the the dura spark? I may as well spend the extra 40 bucks on the dura spark instead of the extra cap peice since i already have the MSD Blaster TFI unit.

RE: HEI dist for 5.0
Yes, it will work with the duraspark. The blaster 2 is supposed to be better on a carb application for some reason but I can't think of why right now but I know for a fact it will work.
This will show you how to hook the MSD 6A up to just about any distributor.
