Replace fuel pump on my 95 GT
hey guys,
Im going to replace my fuel pump on my 95 5.0. Anybody have any ideas or tips on how to do this? I have replaced a fuel pump in the past so hopefully it wont be all that difficult. Im replacing mine because the damn thing hums so loud and has to be going bad. It has stalled for no reason in the past and thinking that th efuel pump is going out. Anybody have any advice or anything. Im assuming that the pump is located in the tank and that has to be dropped..... Thanks

In case you have to do this again later on, what about making some sort of opening or door for it?
Then you can get to it from the inside of the trunk next time.
Yes, you have to drop the tank, so of course empty as much as you can first.

If it is like my 90' I did last week it's not too bad.
1) Disconnect electrical connector behind tank and releive fuel pressure.
2) REmove threee screws around filler inside door.
3) Remove screw that holds bracket around filler tude where it meets tank.
4) Remove fuel lines and replace fuel fitler. It should have plastic hairpin clips. You might need a cheap plactic tool to remove the hose from the return line.
5) Remove bolts that hold straps to frame and lower it angling it to get out filler tube, pull out vent tube.
6) Brush around the bung and clean off the crap with a shop vac.
7) Remove pump follow directions with pump.
8) Put it all back up reconnect lines with new clips, use a little oil around the rubber bung where the filler neck goes in.
9) Per Alldata, fill with 10 gallons minimum and cycle key 5-10 times to prime pump.
10) You can check pressure at the scrader valve on the fuel rail with a gauge or push a pin in it too make sure it's all up there.
I work with alot of ex mechanics, they all say to keep the tank at least half full especially in hot weather. It keeps the pump submerged and cooled off.
