sup guys, proud gt owner of 5 months here with a question for you guys.
so I have a bone stock 06 gt, while my buddy has a bone stock 2000 corvette(c5) both auto. I was wondering what the cheapest and most basic mods i could put in to beat him? I know the vette has 350hp but say i put in all the basic mods. will i win? (cant afford supercharger right now

I'd say Cold air kit and custom tune, X-pipe with cats, 4.10 gears, and some tires that will hook just to be sure. Vettes are known to be great launchers[sm=gears.gif], but our 05/06 stangs launch good too. The stock tires make it seem like you are taking off on plastic tires instead of rubber though.

that prolly wont get u up to 350 hp, although the gears will help you out alot down low. if u want to take him anywhere on the speedo do some major bold ons. or get nitrous its awesome

beat a c5 z06 on the 405-S today from 70-140mph...it can be done with just a couple mods and good driving IMO

well if the vette is rated at 350, that is probably off the fly right?

so the gt is rated 300 off the fly, plus some of the intake+tune mods can give around 30rwhp, which would be a lot more of the flywheel. add an exhaust, headers, etc, i think you will be over 350 from the fly even though your might still be floating around 300rwhp. (this is just a logical guess on the numbers, i dont know much about GTs so i could be WAY off)

gears would be good too, but depending on the labor expences in your area, it might cost way too much (for me it would have cost me almost as much as a S/C). if you want some cheap/quick/easy power, pick up a ZEX for about $530, that will win you the race most definitly

My father has a 2000 auto too. With the mods I have done to my car, I still think he could pull me.

i raced a stock c5 with my manual , k&n cai , long headers stang. from a 20 roll and he was ahead of me by a length of a car and half.
i blv if i added a good tune and 4:10 i would beat the c5.

a friend of mine owns a stang manual nos 75 shots and k&n cai owned a c5 while a zero roll.
and with a 100 shots he owned the c6 from 20 roll after 110 ..

Supercharger - nothing else will do it. Vette is 300+ lbs. lighter and has more torque, so unless you got to 350hp at the wheels, which no one has in a 2005/06 in NA form,
your just not going to win, unless is by being a much better driver, which with an auto is doubtful.

ya i was also thinkin that if all these mods add up to around 3k i would probably just save up for a kb. since the cars are auto im sure it coudnt be a drivers race, but man would i like to get him without the kb!

I work with a guy that drives a C5. We have run a number of times now. I have him strong from a launch (I hook much, much better) we are very close in the straights (can go either way from run to run), and he loses me in the twisties. I think they are very well matched cars, I have not met him at the dragstrip yet, but i really believe that since i can pull him from the launch I could take him. I know he would keep up and maybe gain but do not think he could pass me. I don't have everything in my sig. that I have done to the car. But i have not hit the $3000 mark yet.
