Default LT1 Camaro vs. 99-04 Mustang

Hey guys, I have a question for you? First of all I am looking at a 96 lt1 camaro 6spd and a 02 Mustang GT with a 5spd. I like each of them a lot, but imo the stang is much better looking. But on the other hand I know, the camaro has some more power. First off, how do the 99-04's do against the lt1's? I have only found a few posts talking about that. How receptive are the 99-04's with mods? And what times are the 02s or any of that body style getting on the 1/4 mile? Thanks for your help, if I missed any posts please link em.

LT1's are slightly faster than new edge stangs.

LT1s with heads and cams will destroy just about any, if not all N/A 4.6l mustangs.

Stock for stock a 99-04 and a lt1 should run the same times. Mod'ed who ever has the best driver skill, best planned mods, and bigger pocket book.

there is an lt1 on a trailer at my apartment complex that ran a 13.0@118(on street tires and off the bottle) with a terrible 60'. but there is more than just a bolt-on's list on that car, as is the engine has been rebuilt so probly could be considered a lt4

A stock 99-04 gt should run low to mid 14's. hear at the local track they seem to run high 14 and some a low 15. All depends on elevation, weather, track, and the driver's experience

With the mods below and drag radials i ran a 13.6.33@98.xx with a 1.985 60'. now it still has a little bit left as is and still not done with bolt ons.

also see at the top of the page for timeslips, they all should have info on mods

At the same time, the lt1 gets maxed out with what you can do with it pretty quick. The only reason why I would buy the lt1 is, because you can drop an ls1 and rape on the street!!! But, my heart says mustang

+1..my best friend's cousin has a 97 lt1..with the lt4 work up done to it...his best time was a 12.8 i believe..and now he is in the process of putting on a vortech as we speak..go with the lt1..more receptive to bolt ons and h/c/i

I used to have a 95 Z28 and powerwise I would have to say my 03 is just as quick as the 95 was. The aftermarket is pretty big for the LT1 engines. The aftermarket for the 2V's isnt all that huge but it is starting to grow. If the LT1 is in good shape I would have to say get the camaro. If you choose the 2V you still arent doing bad either. The Mustang is going to be newer and plus better looking. Good luck in your choice.

a race between an lt1 f-body and a 99-04 GT is very very much a driver's race. go with the one that you like and is 7 years younger.
