Default Gear Oil Change on a 94 5.0

I was actually wondering the same thing as LOUDexhaust about where to jack up the car, but I also had a few questions about the gear oil change on a 94 5.0.

Is it better to jack up the car, or is it OK to back it onto ramps when changing gear oil? Also, does anyone know where exactly the plug is to put the oil back in the rear end? I understand that the basic steps are unbolting the cover and draining out the oil, looking for metal shavings / cleaning up a bit, and replacing the cover with silicone around the edges, but I can't find the plug on my Stang

Any help on this process is much appreciated!

just jack it up and put jack stands under the axle housin, out by the wheels. the fill plug will be a 3/8" drive plug. there wont be a bolt head on it. just stick the end of a 3/8" extension in it with a rachet.

Ok, so can anyone tell me exactly where this fill plug is?? I've searched for damn near 30 minutes for the thing and can't locate it.

I'm going to the track tomorrow to run my Stang, and I wanted to change my gear oil b/c it's been over 1,000 miles since my 3.73 gear/rear end install. Will it hurt my car if I run tomorrow, or should I change the gear oil first?

There is a Check/Fill plug only on the top/front of the axle, driver side on Fords. Facing the drivers' side. You may have to take a small screwdriver and get the dirt out before taking it out to prevent stripping and/or to see the damn thing. 3/8's ratchet w/3" extension is correct.

There is no drain plug on it. You can replace the rear gasket or find a vaccuum pump to take it all out through the Check/fill plug.

That's the way we do it at the Dealership.

Yeah, I have yet to find that stupid thing. Thanks for the picture though. Karma - you say it's on the axle itself? I've looked everywhere for it!

I plan on draining the oil by taking the differential cover off, and then obviously filling it via the fill plug.

Should I be running my car at the track tomorrow given that I haven't changed the gear oil yet?
