"AOD Shuffle"on art carr aod
i have an art carr aod racing tranny on my 89 notch....im alittle skeptical on something.my mechanic told me that it is ok to shuffle the tranny back into low to hold and redline 2nd then bump it back up...im not 2 sure what to do, cause the tranny is built for the street, and it shifts out at 4500 unless i low gear it and then bump it...if i floor it, it still shifts at 4500.i tried launching it in low...then bumped it to drive and it shifted into 2nd, then right into third cause it hit 4500 already....idk wtf i should do about it, cause i've heard mixed opinions on the aod shuffle and not to do it, or it would be ok cause low gear can be 1st and second(if ur dropping it into low from drive)idk what i should do...i dont wanna wreck a brand new tranny, but at the same time, i dont wana run a ****try time cause my tranny shifts out of second as soon as it gets there.....I NEED HELP!!!lol anyone with some knowledge, please help me...thanks

What valve body does it have? In other words, if it has a "race" valve body it should have an AOD delete switch and you should be to shift it manually and hold any gear. Otherwise, you have to do the old 1-D-1 shuffle. Start in first to hold first gear to any rpm, shift into D and quickly back to 1st to shift into 2nd and hold 2nd to any rpm, then shift into D for third gear.
If it has the stock vlalve body or one that does not allow you shift manually, I'd replace it. Lentech sells a great valve body that allows you to shift manually or just put it into OD to shift automatically. It comes with an OD delete solenoid so you can turn it off for drag racing and on for highway use.

^^ like said above if its the stock VB it is indeed hurting ur tranny
i have the stock AOD and shuffling it while driving normal (not holding every gear to the redline) it works great and it goods for going up steep hills or just cruising at a lower speed.
i have tried to redline all the gears while shuffling and it was pretty responsive but the shift back into 3rd was really delayed and if i didnt let off the gas the car probably would have hit the rev limiter (yikes!!!)
just my experience with shuffle shifting

i think u should keep beating on it lol j/k
to my knowledge, my AOD is 100% stock and i can rip 2nd gear to the redline just be keeping it floored. it didnt used to do this infact one time it shifted at 3500 while @ WOT?!?
anyway i can really rip through the gears for an AOD
im not ******* the 5 speed but i love not having a clutch
