Default Starter keeps turning over?

This happened a while back, so I replaced the starter, and it just happened again tonight, which makes me think that the starter was fine before and it's the wiring.

When I fire the baby up, the starter keeps turning over like the key is stuck in the start position or something, but it's not the key or ignition because I can turn the key off and the engine stops because the fuel stops but the starter keeps going and it only retracts after about second gear. Is it the wiring that is going bad? New battery wire and starter and everything is like 200$!!

HELP

It's definitely a bad starter solenoid that is sticking when the power is applied when the key goes into the start position. Replace the solenoid and you will fix this problem.

No, the relay is located right next to the coil on the driver's side right by the shock tower. Probably covered under a plastic panel.

I just did a MAF conversion on my 87 5.0... Now I have multiple electrical gremlins to work out!... A big one is my starter works when I turn the key in and ofcourse I must have the clutch in because I have a 5 speed..... and the starter stops engaging when I take my foot off the clutch, but when I go to shift it into gear to move... THE STARTER RE-ENGAGES!...What the heck could be causing this?????? for now I am stuck starting my ride with a screw driver. Also, my tach and engine temp gauge stopped working.. My fuses are good. Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

Sounds like you have a relay problem too. The gauges may be caused by the plug came loose from the back of the insturment cluster.

Its that starter solonoid. I've replaced myn twice. If the starter continues to turn over... just pull out the top plug on the starter solonoid. (This disconnects the solonoid from the starter. Just be careful when installing the new solonoid, make sure you put the right cables in the right locations or you'll end up frying something like i once did. Good luck.

every single one of you are wrong.. the SN95 does not have the gay starter solenoid that the fox has. Our solenoid is ON the starter.

replace your ignition switch
