Quarter panel patch

RE: Quarter panel patch
I'm in the middle of repairing mine now. I opted for the skins. It's a big job, it's taken me long time just to do one side. But, this is also my first time welding, or doing any major body work for that matter. I still have to finish butt-welding the top seam on the passenger side, and then start the driver side. I also replaced the lower trunk extension and the outer wheelhouse. I went for the skin because the previous owner "repaired" the lower rear side of the quarter panel with about 1/4" of bondo. I also had a fair ammount of rust infront of the wheelhouse. One the driver side it was the same story for the lower rear, but the rest of it was in pretty goo shape. The reason I'm doing the whole skin on that side is that the Outerwheel house is gone on the lower front of it, so the only way to replace it is to replace the whole quarter panel too. Where is the damage located on your panels?

im doing mine about half way up, buts its becaue i need to put in the wheelhouse, if not for that i would only do the area that i needed to, that way i could keep as much of the orginal metal as possible

Cut out all of the bad metal. Make sure you get it all and the cut the patch to fit the hole. Leave as much original metal as you can. You have to make sure you get all of the cancer.

Are you using a Mig or a Tig to weld the panel back in. My 66 needs the lower rear quarter panel replaced on one side (pin holes and lower edge) and pretty much the whole rear half on the other(somebody hit it before I bought it )

You'll be fine; this is my first time welding too. Just find something to practice on. Sheet metal is hard because you hve to weld in uick burst almost, or else you'll burn through.
