Hey Glen, no, I didn't mean to imply that you were seriously knocking the cougar's current setup, or me, personally. The stance will be fixed one way or another as life goes on. I'm thinking the rear leafs will settle down long before I ever get to that 460 swap.
The rear leafs are brand new, from JC Whitney of all places.
They just seemed to be the only place that had 5-leafs for the 1968 cougar available right off the shelf. I would rather not use lowering blocks, I would have preferred a 5-leaf mid-eye or reverse-eye setup, in order to get the heavier springs back there while maintaining more or less proper ride height. But, I ended up using whatever I could find.
I think it is a great thing that you offer your opinion without sugarcoating it, at least to those of us who know something about working on their own cars. And, in terms of the 10,000 posts thread, I think it is great that you are offering up all of the knowledge you have accrued over the years, rather than keeping it to youself.
