Default Transmission Noise When COLD??

What's up... new to the forum, but not new to Mustangs. Just got a 2003 Mach 1. Been driving it for about a month now but i started to notice when i start the car first thing in the morning there is this awful metal on metal grinding noise that slowly dies down in about 5 minutes. If i tap the clutch pedal it gets worse. Once at operating temperature, no noises at all. I was thinking throw out bearing at first, but this is acting the opposite of any bad throw out bearing I've had to replace. It usualy goes away with pedal pressure. Kinda stumped... maybe pressure plate? The noise is getting worse in the mornings or when the engine is cold. I've been driving it pretty conservatively lately, but no driveability issues what so ever, clutch doesnt slip, jerk, or anything. Well that about sums it up. Great first post, huh? Thanks in advance for any input.

Does it make the noise with the clutch pedal pushed all of the way in? Mine sometimes makes a little noise when cold in nuetural at idle and goes away as soon as I push the pedal in. But then again, I've got almost 80k on mine now.

The noise is worse with the clutch pedal all the way in rather than just resting my foot on it. It makes the noise regardless of gear. I've drove once or twice without letting the noise go away first and it seems the noise is in tune with engine rpm. I dunno if this helps any.

i've been having the same problem. i tried to get a few people to listen to it also but if its not in the mourning then it doesn't make the noise. do i need to take it to the ford dealer? how much will it cost?

Sounds to me like your pressure plate or clutch face. If you replaced the throw-out bearing, i would have went ahead and did some work on your pressure plate as well. If its chirping you hear, then that is your throw-out bearing, when u put pressure on the clutch, the chirping will quit. My 97 GT does the same thing

I've replaced T/O bearings before... it's definately not the normal chirping noise it's more metal on metal like a die grinder. First time I heard it i didnt know it was my car, i thought someone was cutting 2x4s in the distance. It actually gets worse with pedal load. I was leaning toward pressure plate, the clutch is tight and doesnt slip whatsoever. Might as well replace the whole set up while I'm at it though. Any reccomendations for clutch/flywheel/throw out/pilot bearing combo?
