Resonator delete with stock mufflers
Hello all,
My wife bought a '15 Ecoboost premium the other day. Surprising performance so far. As a V8 traditionalist, I know that you can't get a 4 cylinder to sound remotely close to a V8. Anyone hear of anything that doesn't make the car sound like it belongs amongst the civics of the world?
I was eyeing at removing the resonator, to save weight. Anyone have any feedback of what it sounds like to ditch the resonator but keep the stock mufflers? Any other recommendations?
Thanks,
Aris

There hasn't been much info yet about deepening the 2.3 exhaust sound. I've heard that a cat-back or turbo-back will help with the sound, but so would an axle-back or even just the mufflers. (Modding just for sound is not the same as modding for power). Anyone with thoughts on this?

maybe this is one case where a muffler delete could work ok.

I'm also thinking of removing the stock mufflers and replacing with straight pipes. The resonator would remain or replaced with a muffler. I've had a couple of hot rod muffler shops suggest that but I don't know ... I want it louder than stock but not to the point it attracts unwanted attention. Has anyone done this mod?

From what I have read on this subject, it seems that the muffler-delete option will make it louder for sure, but you risk making it sound like an old eco-box with a rusted-out muffler. I think the only decent option that does justice for this Mustang is to go for an exhaust mod that takes it down deep in tone, with no raw or raspy notes at any RPM. So far, a catback from Magnaflo, Ford Racing (Borla), MAP etc. would be the best bet. Any opinions on this?
