Default EcoBoost dyno results

We just shared this in another thread but wanted to post this here for everyone with an EcoBoost or thinking of buying one.

We have gotten some impressive results with the 2.3L EcoBoost engine with a CAI kit, catless downpipe and a custom tune. Next up will be a BOV, wastegate, larger turbo and intercooler upgrade when the customer is ready. If the cost to own and operate a GT is too high for you, the EcoBoost may be your best option.

Baseline

CAI, downpipe and dyno tune.

yep, that's the beauty of boosted engines. cheap mods and a tune can get so much more out of them than on a normally aspirated engine.

ya just need to make sure it doesn't go lean under boost.

Wow, almost as much hp and more torque than the V8. Starting to make me consider trading my base 5.0 in for a loaded eco-boost. I just wonder if the small engine can take the 28 lbs of boost long term (several years) without failing?

The 2.3L is a very stout engine from Ford. It has forged steel rods and a forged steel crankshaft. ARP hardware and a better head gasket will be the first step to longevity under higher than stock boost levels.

Interesting. I just checked with KBB thinking I couldn't come close to breaking even on a trade since I only had my car for 2 years, but it was within 500 of what I owe! Then again, dealers usually don't give what its worth and mine has been in a fender bender. Plus when I go to build one like I think I would like with premium, manual, track pack, Recaros and possibly 201A, it comes out to about what my 5.0 did before I got A-plan pricing. Of course I really don't need those last two options. Funny thing is when I search local inventory, there are none within 100 miles with the options I wanted, at least in the green, orange or black. Only other colors I might consider is another gray or maybe ruby red.

I guess I could go check some out to see how the turbo feels. I'm sure it wouldn't be close to the 5.0 at least stock, but my previous two cars were Genesis coupes with 210 and 275hp so it may surprise me. IDK, probably not a good idea right now as I intended to keep this car at least 4-5 years to get a better trade-in, but I never seem to make it that long with the cars I buy.

Looking at one of these used...was told I might not be able to live with the lack of low end grunt...but, and please correct me if I'm wrong, all those numbers you posted were to the rear wheels...If so I'm blown away with how strong these are...even stock...and much like my Turbo Cat Sleds...intake, down Pipe and ECU Flash and you're off to the races 😜

The stock EcoBoost has plenty of Guts Down Low - you just need to step on the gas more so than the 5.0. The more you load the engine the more boost you have at that RPM and boost is torque
