Default Quicky Method

First off, this is a quality post with great pics to illustrate the install... we all appreciate the time it took to write it up.

I have now done this install 3 times. The first time, on my Mustang, I followed this post and the install went great. The other 2 times (friend's car's lol) I simply pried the plastic lens covers off. I used a small flat head screwdriver and very gently placed the blade in-between the plastic lens and the surrounding opening and pried just a very little bit. I moved around the lens and the little sucker pops right out. No scratches or marks anywhere if done slowly and carefully.

Takes just about 1 minute per lens and I would have no hesitation doing it this way next time, even on my own car ;-). The reason I tried this easy way is I was always afraid of breaking those little brackets or the housing.

Default Great post!

This is something I will definitely do once I get back from the "sandbox"! Thanks for taking the time to document everything, and everyone else's input...

Great write up. When I did mine my friend and I simply removed the lens covers and pulled out the existing bulbs. Replaced them with the LEDs and put the lens covers back on. Mine do stay on a little bit all the time but they do not seem to affect anything. I just added a Blue LED interior lighting kit, Blue LED underbody kit, 7 color LED engine kit and some Blue LED Blue bars to the trunk as well. I've got one left to install in the grille.

Here's an interior shot of the LED Map lights with the interior kit.

I installed these and was a little surprised that they stay on dimly so I searched and found this thread.
After some checking it seems mine will stay on a while but will shut off completely after about 15-20 minutes.
So it's not a problem at all. The blue does look very cool and is easier on the eyes at 5am.

like many that install the 3rd brake light led's, they stay dim even with car off until they bought a $2 resistor to stop it.

My bad, I should have specified mine are the map lights, they turn off completely on their own after 15 minutes or so, no need for a resistor like the 3rd brake light.

The draw from an LED maplight lit at ~5% capacity will likely strain your car battery...in about 40 years haha.

Happy new year all!

Ha Ha if you rig up 2 LED's AND have the aftermarket home link mod like I do....It doesn't work very well. With both LED's installed when you push the homelink button the map lights go on. It cracked me up the first time I saw it.

I have to go with One LED only If I want my homelink to work.

Great Job! Now professor I am waiting to see how you change the complete instrumentation video. I have a Roush without my color and want to switch to blue! I'll be looking forward to your next lesson! Thanks well done.

The LED bulbs behave exactly as your stock bulbs would They turn on and off with the switches. They run anywhere from $6-12 each and the bulbs come in almost any standard color.

I bought some 194 blue led bulbs and followed the instructions on this post. I like how the cabin glows blue at night. Does it matter if I use 194 bulbs or 921 bulbs?
