Default #168 license plate bulb

Anybody found a brighter bulb for the rear license plate light? My '06 is so dim I'm afraid I'm going to get stopped by the boys in blue. I don't know if the bulb is bad (it is glowing) or if it's just too wimpy for the application. Maybe an LED replacement bulb?

thank you for posting one of the few threads dedicated to making your Mustang LEGAL!
I'm sure all LEO's salute you and your desire to prove that you aren't trying to see how illegal you can make your car! WTG!

i just put on some LED bulbs for my stang and it makes it look 10x better and the difference is like night and day. i got pure white with i think 3 or 5 LEDS. I also bought new license plate bulb covers (i have an 03GT) for like $6 each from ford because the old ones were getting cloudy.

PM me if you have any questions.

Default Bulbs

Hey kmcray85,
Where did you buy yours? Was it just a drop in? No resistors or anything?

Default License bulb

Found my problem. Pulled the bulb and found it blown, almost looked like it was chrome plated. For the time being I just replaced it to get legal again. I also found the bulb holder was cracked, I will order a new one from Mr. Ford. I will probably go with an LED bulb later. Thanks guys.

The gettering collected all the impurities in the gasses in the bulb.
Its just doing what it was designed to do....

Lethal's license plate bulb will work without the use of a resistor....it's my understanding that you only need it for the reverse lights.
