Default CDC Classic Chin question

I'm thinking about buying a used CDC Classic chin spoiler from a local guy. I was looking at CDC's installation instructions today and noticed it says to sand down part of the front bumper for the 3m tape. Being used, I'd obviously have to clean off the old 3m tape from the bumper and buy new tape. But, is the tape really necessary? I've had to clean up 3m tape before and it's not a quick or easy process. Also, I don't really want to sand part of my bumper in case I later change my mind or want to go with something else.

So, is there anybody out there with one of these installed without sanding and using tape?

I just cleaned the bumper and spoiler with alchool before applying the tape. Been on there almost a year now with no problem.

I did not sand my bumper, but you will need the 3M tape, there's just too much area to leave the spoiler unsecured, the 4 screws on the ends will not hold it in place when you're driving IMO.

I just cleaned he area with alcohol and stuck the 3M tape on and everytime my spoiler bottoms out it pops the tape off the bumper and I have to press it downt to resecure it. I should have prepared the lip on my bumper better, but I didn't want to mess it up incase I wanted to take the chin off.

No sanding here. Mine came with adhesion promoter that I wiped on the area where it would be attached and stuck it on. The tape is really the only thing that holds it on.

Do not sand the bumper. Simply clean the area with rubbing alcohol and apply the adhesion promoter before applying the sticky tape.

The CDC spoiler is a very tight fit. Between the fit, and side screws and the sticky tape- it isn't coming off.

I have had my chin spoiler on for about 5 months and I didn't even bother putting 3m tape on and I haven't had a single problem yet. I think the bolts on the side and the tabs on the bottom are more then enough.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to get it, but not use the 3m tape yet until I decide whether I like it in the black or get it painted.

For those of you with the unpainted chins, how is the color? I've heard some people say that it has a brownish tint to it. I'd like to get one, but want to make sure it is indeed black.

Just make sure you use the automotive grade 3M tape
