Advise for GT500 mod after wreck
#11
You should be able to do the conversion with a Grand out of pocket.
Especially if you go with a cheaper aftermarket hood.
The OEM hood for those cars retails at $1300.
It's madness but it's great when you have a wreck of no fault of your own (no deductible applies).
Refer to the sticky for all the needed parts.

OK, just in case anyone else is looking i found this page that has the GT500 part #s listed. Only 2 days of looking :-) ...would have been sooner if not for that darn thing called life getting in the way.
I kinda figured out the lack of response too, there are quite a few GT500 conversion threads on here. Sorry about that one, i promise to look a little harder before i post again!! Anyhow, i guess i will start making some calls to the local dealer and see what kind of prices I can get....although i don't really see how it won't work since the entire front of my car is gone.

Thanks pascal, i was actually typing my message as you were posting your. I still get the deductible (kind of). Michigan has a great *sarcasm* no fault system. My insurance pays for my car (really glad i didn't switch from AAA to save a few $$s) and I pay me deductible.
I then get to file a mini-tort(law suit) against the other guys insurance for the amount of my deductible up to $500....as long as the guy had insurance.

Also be aware that many on here are oppose to the the idea of a car being something that it is not. By you putting Snake emblems and the SS badge on your car would be like me (a V6) putting a GT emblem on....which I would NEVER do, I like the Tri-bar too much. LOL
Your car is what it is.....unless you upgrade your engine and tranny, you will still be driving a GT.
Just my 2¢....Good Luck!

Thanks for the link geocomp, i found that thread last night and skimmed it.
I'm pretty sure that i am going to order a prepackaged kit from express_aero on ebay
It comes with the hood I wanted and price wise works out pretty good to.
If i were to find a local for dealer to get the parts from, and say i could get them from $1600 (low end from what i've read) + tax (6%) =1700. The venom hood i wanted from trufiber was $770 + $150 shipping = $920. Total = $2620 delivered to the shop.
The kit delivered to the body shop (including hood) is $2400 + $265 shipping = $2665
It isn't worth driving all over town picking up parts to save $45 IMO (time + gas).

I was also shock that the car wasn't totaled. It was REALLY close though, i think what saved it was that I wanted it repaired (i don't think i would have gotten enough money from the insurance co to make me happy) and it only had 17K miles on it.

I would be very carefull buying a kit from someone on E-bay. The add shows real customers cars but the yellow car pictured looks like Mellowyellow06's car. MellowYellow06 is the guy that for the most part started this trend on MustangForums and is the one that author'd that thread that I sent you in the early post. I would PM him and see if he can confirm that is his car pictured and if so is he a customer of the e-bay seller.
Oh, and you shouldn't have to drive all over town looking for parts. Call some dealership and get the best price then have them drop ship the parts directly to the bodyshop. I personally used TascoFord, but others recommend Tousley Ford as stated in stickied thread on doing the GT500 conversion.

Also, that is not the same car in their advertisement as Mellowyellow06's. Mellowyellow06 has a cobra emblem on front grill + sides, chrome rims + brake ducts on the front.
