Advise for GT500 mod after wreck
#51
Finally got the car back. I'll work on a longer right up with all the details when i get a chance, hopefully later tonight. It's not perfectly polished (yet) but here are a few finished pictures, one even includes my son sucking down a cold one .

Here is the summary of my experience and expenses:
I ordered a kit from express_aero_kits on ebay.
The kit included:
* Front Bumper Assembly
* Front Air Splitter
* Upper Grille
* Lower Grille
* Left Headlight
* Right Headlight
* 2 GT500 Fog Lamps w/ Bulbs
* 2 GT500 Fog Light Wiring Harness
* Crash Pad/Isolator Assembly
* Sight Shield
* Front Grille Emblem
* GT500 Snake Fender Emblems
* GT500 Snake Fender Emblems
* Left Fascia Bracket
* Right Fascia Bracket
* GT500 Venom Style TRUFIBER Hood
It ended up costing me $2,644.00 ($2399 + $245 shipping)
I called to confirm availability, when it would ship (states up to 2 month on the ebay page, which wouldn't work at all), and if I could get the Venom II hood instead of the Venom hood. I was told that it wouldn't be a problem and that it would ship out with in the week. I called back 20 minutes later after placing my order to have them adjust the paypal invoice to reflect shipping to a business. When I did I was told that he talked to his supplier, and that the Venom II hod was in stock and should ship out monday (this was on a Thursday).
The following Thursday i got an email saying "That Venom 2 Hood is out of stock. Tried to find it elsewhere, but no one else has it either. It will be back in stock in 3 weeks or we can get you a Venom 1 hood out immediately." To make a long story short, I ended up getting the Venom I hood + a GT500 spoiler thrown in at no cost.
I got a cobra fuel cap off ebay for $16 shipped. I also got a CDC Squirter Nozzle relocation kit off ebay. It was more expensive on ebay than elsewhere, but I got $50 in ebay bucks when I bought the conversion kit, so that cost me $10 shipped.
My hood was finally shipped 2 weeks after I placed my order and was delivered 19 days after I ordered it. WAY too long since it was supposed to ship 2 days after I ordered. It was delivered via UPS freight.
The other parts had already been sitting around the shop and we supposed to have shipped from Ford Racing (all were in Ford boxes/packaging so i am assuming that they did).
I talked to one of the guys who actually worked on the hood today, apparently the problem, why it was resanded was that it was getting fish eyes. At which point I asked "What?" Apparently it's an area where the paint really doesn't stick well and is quite common when working with fiberglass. Overall he was happy with the quality of the hood, it had good edges and didn't have gouges that needed to be filled in.
My total out of pocket cost for the whole job was $325 ($300 for extra work, $15 for gas cap + $10 for nozzle relocation kit) which I thought was great since a fiberglass hood is more work than a metal once (if i had just replaced mine). They painted and installed my new spoiler, removed old gas cap and installed both the gas cap and the relocation kit.
I was told (after I ordered of course) that I could have gotten the parts cheaper if I would have ordered them myself from a Ford dealership, but I am not real sure what all that included compared to what I got.

Hi- I have enjoyed reading your post and following the story. I think your car looks great, nice job. I see that your car is a convertible. That even makes me like it more. There is nothing like driving around with your top down on a nice summer night. Good luck and have fun with that nice car. PS: save it for your son when he is sixteen.
