Bad hood paint
#12
Can I see some pictures of this? The front lip of my hood does seem to have an abnormal amount of chips and nicks. I thought it was just because people like to spray me with gravel, but this might be even worse.

To get an idea (obviously not my car):

That's the problem I'm having, except it's spread more, including the top side of the hood

As I said before, my car was still under warranty so I didn't have to pay. I gave it to the dealer to fix while I was out of town on business. The repair tech that I was dealing with called me and told me that it was going to take longer than they expected. They popped the hood and found it spread all under the hood (you might wanna check under yours), then, they were asked by Ford to take pics and send them in to the plant. On top of that, the dealer had to wait for a special "kit" to be sent to us from Ford that contained some kind of product that had to be used during the paint process.
They had my car for 2 weeks. When I came back to town the second week, they foot the bill for a rental car for me. The hood looks great now, and they also did a good job replacing my custom stripes.
Those of you that aren't covered by a warranty, might wanna write some serious letters to those folks back at the plant. Maybe even go to the press.

PS~I asked to see the pics they took and was told that they'd been deleted. Hmmmm.....

Yep the hood corosion sucks big time. My car had it when I bought it 2 years ago. Luckily my wife works for the dealership where I purchased it from. It was fixed that summer 5 months after I bought it. Before the hood gets painted at the factory, the metal got contaminated. Therfore the paint will eventualy start to bubble up, then flake off. I think there is a warranty of 6yrs. 60,000 miles for corrosion. Mine was an early build in 04, so I cut it close. But at least it got done............then I drilled 2 new holes in the hood for hood pins. Anyhoo, make sure you get a new hood, not a re-paint or you will have the same problem arise again.

As far as the comment, "there is a warranty of 6yrs. 60,000 miles for corrosion" many dealerships may not recognize this because if they can't poke a hole through it, then they will say it's not corroded. Unfortunately there are a lot of owners who ran out of warranty and had to either foot the bill for a new paint job or buy an after market hood. To be honest, the ONLY way to be SURE you have cured the problem would be to purchase an after market hood.
Instead of Ford paying $$$$ on masking a problem, they should have owned up to their mistake and sent all of us a check for the price of a new hood of our choice.
