Default Door / Window trim

Hi everyone,

I've been searching around for replacement trim, and haven't been able to find anything. I'm looking for (hopefully) a chrome replacement for the rubberized-plastic trim on the S197 door, external, where the window drops down.

I dumbly hit the trim with a pressure washer, and it completely tore off the texture on it, and pulled up chunks of the rubber.

I can't seem to find aftermarket replacements for these anywhere!

Thanks,

--Cal

I snapped a quick pic with my phone to show which trim I'm talking about. (What is it called anyway? Molding? Trim?) The picture is a little out of focus, but you get the idea. 2000PSI + rubber == destruction.

What's holding you back from going to the local mustang dealership or a scrap yard? There's gotta be a trashed s197 in a junkyard somewhere that has the molding in tact and still unweathered...

Yeah, I could definitely cruise the junkyards and then search the parts shops for a stock replacement... but I'm curious if there are any aftermarket chrome trim? It seems like there are chrome replacements for just about everything, but not this.

Or would that just look weird?

hmm, I've never seen anything like what you're suggesting before. Personally, I wouldn't want to overdue it with the chrome and what you're suggesting makes me think that the eyes will be drawn to your windows rather than your car's body lines. However, I'm sure you're not the only one out there with this idea, I'd do some searching around! When it comes to the mustang after market, you'd be surprised by what you find after a diligent search.

You could always sand then down and paint them.

Have you ever seen a '55 Buick? ;-) I suppose the 50's is a prime example of "overdoing the chrome" but I see the point. Unless I go crazy with the chrome. (mirrors, door handles, fuel door, etc) then it'll look out of place. Plus, I have the 18" polished aluminum wheels, which really stand out against blue with black accents.

I could probably try slathering them with a few coats of primer to cover up the damage, then painting them black... but then I'm just back to the same stock looking molding. I've been doing my googling, and still haven't found any kind of aftermarket part, so I guess it's back to finding a stock replacement.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
