Can you paint over your vinyl stripes?
My silver stripes have some pretty nasty stains and look really dull, was wondering if masking and painting with some automotive paint then clearcoat would give it a nice restored look. Is this possible or would the paint not stick or stay?

No dude not a good idea. I would be willing to bet you have little to no experience painting, and even in my limited experience I understand that making mistakes when masking off and painting the car will be disastrous. You can physically do it but to do it right, even with spray cans, would cost you a fair amount in tape, paint, time, masking materials, and effort. It would be best if you purchased the stripes themselves and laid new stripes down yourself. You could probably use a grease pen or some such to mask of points where the stripe is to be laid down from your old stripes too, just to make it easier.

Best to either have stripes painted on (after you remove the old ones) or get another set of vinyl stripes. I have heard that if you got a shop to paint a clear coat over the new vinyl stripes, they would last a lot longer.

07, I can't say for sure, but logically speaking, that sounds like it could cause more harm then help. The material stripes are made out of stretches and expands in heat/cold more then your paint, which is what causes stripes to crack over time. Adding a layer of paint on top would, in my head, crack the stripes much quicker.
