Disaster! My Car Vs. the Garage...
#21
I only have to ask, did you not hear the damage as it was occuring?
The first hit on the mirror would have made me stop in my tracks.
Not make me want to continue on into the garage and see what all the
noise was about after taking out the whole right side of the stang.
Sheit, I would have stopped when the mirror hit the garage door...
But glad it all buffed out fine.
I would be afraid that my passenger would hit that yard light you have
placed so strategically as to whack the bottom edge of the door when
parked where you are taking pictures at.
Booby trapped is what I would call that. Get it, booby trapped...

When I park there the passenger door did hit that light, but the Mustang doesn't make it out of the garage often, so I rarely park there and almost never have a passenger if I do. I pushed that light down an extra inch to avoid that problem anyway.
Pascal...I didn't see your post in time. I used JB Weld Kwik (Or whatever) to seal the mirror together. I used as much as I could without it seeping out the edges and did scuff both surfaces beforehand. It seems like it's going to hold just fine. If it doesn't, I'll suck it up and order a new pair of mirrors.
Here's the car all cleaned up, mirror fixed, and SHR louvers installed.

Remember this? I re-painted the passenger mirror and painted the louvers the same way, in fact I used the same can of left over touch-up paint.
I would be pretty furious if I paid a professional and the paint job turned out like this, but considering the price I paid for the paint job and the fact that I can say I did it myself, I'm satisfied. The finish isn't great, I'd prefer it much glossier, and the louvers have a couple of errors if you look closely.
I DID take pascal's advice after last time, and was careful not to lay the coats of base on too thick. That prevented the spider webbing that I got the first time I tried this.
I need to find a good deal on an air compressor capable of powering a real paint gun so I can paint the RIGHT way though. All air compressors I've found with CFM's better than 7-8 or so seem really big, and really expensive. Neither are conducive for my situation.

I got a compressor from Harbor Freight for the house.
$199 (on sale), 2.5 HP/ 125 PSI output. Plenty CFM and power for a conventional paint gun.
I can take picture or give you the ref. number if you want.

No pictures or ref. number needed...I had looked at several of these compressors before. I'd decided that the 6 CFM's that they put out wasn't enough for a paint gun, if that's enough, that's awesome. I'll pick one up for sure.
