need help with new speakers

My neighbor use to be in a christian rock band many years ago and today was throwing out his old equipment. he offered me his old speakers. 4 celestion G12-65 15 ohm speakers. now I never wanted to do anything with the audio in my car. maybe put in an in-dash GPS but power/suspension mods always got 100% of my budget. so this is totally out of my field of know how. what do I need to get these guys running? my younger brother has offered to build the box where my back seats go but he's not sure what kind of amp they'd need.

anyone?

15 ohms? you'd need one heck of an amp to power those.

define "one heck of an amp". I have no idea about this stuff but would love to try and put them in my car. if it's too loud I'll give one, two or even 3 to my younger brother. he's all into that stuff but always buys speakers and amps and what not together. this is his first time being handed speakers, not being told the specs and being asked to make it work.

also - the neighbor told me that if I wire them in parallel I can step them all down to 2 ohm. idk if that helps?

from what i can tell from google its more of a vocal speaker and not a subwoofer four 65 watt guitar speakers? i don't think it'll give you the sound your after because its a concert hall type speaker but regardless if i were you and i had my mind set i would go for a four channel amp with a full pass crossover and just wire them up individual. they are not subwoofers. 65w x 4 so go with 200 watts max. running them as you would subwoofers will probably blow them up fairly quick. if i were you and wanted more bump i would thank my neighbor, wait a week and sell them and buy a single 12 and an amp something to throw it in the trunk real simple. or get some drop in speakers if you don't want the boom just better sound. or buy a guitar :) but seriously at $165 new you could probably sell them to someone.

alright - that's what I've gotten from a few of my audiophile friends.

"dude, they're nice, but not for cars, sell them and buy a rear sub"

but like I said, I never cared for the audio in my car - but since they fell in my lap.. ya know? I'll sell them, give him a bit (he was junking them anyway) and use that money towards my shop fees

THANKS!!! love the quick responses

Then give them back or sell them, they will only hurt your sound. It's a tempting offer cause you have them free, but they probably won't sound any Better than stock, and they will be incredibly inefficient. (I'm talking possibly buying a new alternator or capacitor or battery to power the amps you wire them too.
