New Edge Bullit 17's on S197 - will they fit?
Hey guys,
I've been waiting and checking Craigslist for over a year for a set of true Bullitt rims to come up....today they did. Now I'm faced with wondering for sure if they will fit my S197. I looked up some of the specs on the rims from the 2002 Bullit car wheel and they are the following:
Back spacing info (2002 Mustang GT)
Size: 17x9
Offset: 25mm
Backspacing: 5.47"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Rec. Tire Size: 245/45-17
2006 S197 GT wheels
Front and Rear
Size: 17x8
Offset: 40mm
Backspacing: 5.55"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Rec. Tire Size: 235/55-17
I'm not worried about the tire requirements, I'm worried that the back spacing is slightly more shallow and the offset is different than the S197's.
I'm hoping they will clear the brakes and work ok, perhaps with a hub spacer (15mm?) but these deep dish bullits will look SO damn good on my ride I really want to make them work!
Any suggestions or experience with this?
Thanks,
Tom

I believe with the 20mm spacer, that is what the guys said before when running this offset. It looks good with the right wheels. Kevin has Cobra R wheels on his S197 and they look great. I think you'll be happy, especially if you got them at a good buy.

Here's a pic of the wheels on the other guys '02:

I didn't buy them yet, but I've already contacted the guy and looks like I can get them for $250 with worn out tires. But I don't care I'll get new rubber if I have to...been waiting for a set of these a long time!
Here's mine:

Can you post any pics of your buddies car?
Thanks,
Tom

Kevinmalec I believe is his handle. He has those on his with Cobra wheels. Looks nice. I tried to find some up here in Alaska, but not to much luck. I bought another set of 18 Bullitt's (chrome) for snow tires. I have a couple sets of the 17 inch GT 5 double spokes for my Explorer. Talk about a major difference in driveability. and how it holds the highway. That is what the Explorers need. 8 in wide rims, and not the factory 7's.
As far as spacers, they are all over the internet and eBay. Roadkillenterprises is one for adapters and spacers one of the guys up here used on his F150. He swears by them. (or was it at them???). Good luck.

Those rims on the Mustang you listed are 17's right? At least that is what I thought I saw in the picture. If so, you might want to hold out for the 18's if possible. They ride much better than the 17's, and look better in the hole. Been there, tried that, settled on the 18's. The 20's were too hard riding, the 16 (originals) too soft and flexing. The 17's wer ok, but I just found that the 18's seemed to wake the car up. Just my opinion.

Thanks AKdog,
Kevinmalec - ok got it.
Yeah I noticed a nice handling improvment going from 16" to 17" tires/wheels I'm sure the same is true going up another size. I could hold out for 18" S197 based Bullitts to show up but I've NEVER seen them offered not even on Ebay. The only place I found them was at LMR here:
http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...itt-Wheel-18x9
...of course I have to drop $600 for those which is not really in my price range. Most of my parts have to be gotten on the cheap-o-market or second hand like the ones I found. Dropping more than $300 at once for me is a lot as we have one paycheck for family of four.
Don't knowif I can pass these up though!

I bought a set of chrome 18 Bullitt's last week for 300 with a couple decent tires, and two parachute chords (that was all that was left of them). I bought them for the rims only. I figured I'd use them for snow tires, so I can drive the Mustang this winter.
I know what you mean about going with one thing at a time. Go with what you can afford (or the wife let's you afford), one mod at a time. Tires and wheels are so expensive anymore, but without them, the cars look so bland. Good luck with your project.
