Need advice for vinyl BEFORE I commit.
hey guys,
I saw this and thought omfggg love it. As I said in another thread, I've not made any mods to the mustang I bought a couple of weeks ago. I've never made mods to any car and I wanted to start out small. However, this is something I'd love to get done. That has me written all freaking over it. So, do you guys have any idea of what something like this would cost. Obviously areas will vary in cost, but a ballpark figure would be awesome. I'm sure it's a no-no to buy stuff off ebay, but this is where I saw the pic above. I can always go and have someone else duplicate it or something, right? It says, "made with top grade 7 year FDC (3M) Automotive Vinyls, default size is 22x60." I just really have my heart set on something like this.

Well, this is uh, hmmm. Very unique.
I'm a firm believer of the "if you like it go for it" mantra. But I would imagine this won't be cheap at all. Custom vinyl never really is cheap, but I would guess the bulk of the cost will come from installation, what with all the detail and bits and pieces that go to this particular piece.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it costs upwards of 600-700 bucks since this looks pretty intricate and involves basically the whole door panels, part of the fenders, as well working around panel edges. I had a buddy who wanted to get his car wrapped in a matte vinyl (granted that was the whole car) and they quoted him like $3000 for the job.
My suggestion is that you get it printed at a vinyl shop, but a bit smaller and maybe try applying it yourself? That way, if you grow tired of it or you decide to change it up down the road you won't have spent too much on it.
As far as 3M, I used their window tint and it is pretty good stuff. Been about 2ish years and no bubbling/peeling/fading/etc. with it yet.
Personally I just think this is a really big first mod commitment, maybe you should start a little smaller and keep this one for down the road a bit? Just my 2 cents.

Well, you'll have one of "those" Mustangs with that. I always take my time on big mods... especially appearance modes. I walk around, try to visualize and then think about it some more. While this would be reversible, there's no money back on it.

So where did you first see it? With all the specifics you have they didn't have a price? You could get Sign a Rama or some such place make it up for you and install it. I'd say about $200 or so. But that would mean you have a graphic file for them they could load up. And I don't think eBay is necessarily a no-no. Just make sure the vendor has a good rating. Lots of "Normal" vendors maintain a presence on eBay.
