Vinyl racing stripes

Vinyl racing stripes
Hi, I'm new to this forum. I want to put 10" vinyl racing stripes on my mustang. I really like the look of the stripes, but I don't think I can dish out $600 minimum to paint them on. I found vinyl was an option, but I have some concerns. First off, I live in CT where the temperature range is 10-95 degrees. I also don't have a garage, so I'm wondering how much that would affect the vinyl. My questions are: how long do vinyl stripes last, can I wash/wax over them, will the paint color look weird do to fading if I ever do want to take the vinyl off, and because of the heat, would I need to purchase a cover for my car. Thanks

The OE Ford decaling, such as on my wife's 4.0, '06 Pony, are vinyl. Her car is garaged at night but sits out in Florida afternoon sun every week day with no issues on the vinyl. We've never tried removing any of it to see if the paint underneath still matched but I think you could talk to a few vinyl stripe manufacturers. Hopefully, others here that have removed vinyl after a few years of sun exposure can help.

I removed mine about a year ago to have them redone. There was little "ghosting" from the old stripes. I think with some work with a cutting compound and wax, a person could really minimize it.
Eastern Colorado temperatures swing from -20 to well over 100. No issues with the old stripes or new ones.

If you want stripes u need to figure out what finish...Satin, gloss, or matte/flat.
I would NOT wax over any of these finishes and i would also be aware of when drying your car that u do not drag the towel perpendicular to the edge of the stripe. This, over time, will mess with the vinyl.
No matter what finish u pick, u need to buy some kind of vinyl protectant. I have matte black stripes and i bought some Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer. I use it on my stripes every time i clean my car. This stuff cleans, conditions and protects.
IF u can avoid sun, try, dont make it a big deal but be conscious about it.

Sorry we're late to the game here. If you would be interested, we would be happy to get out a few samples of 303® Aerospace Protetcant to keep those stripes looking new and lasting longer. 303® Aerospace Protectant will give you more of that factory/matte finish without the oily or greasy finish of other protectants.
All you need to do is shoot us a PM and we'll get those free samples out. All we ask in return is a little feedback in this thread.
