Default Homelink for garage control?

Ok, I've read over time that alot of people are getting these and modding them to work inside our stangs for our garage doors....The only question I have is does it matter what year of a car I get it out of? I found a few that I figure are reasonable, but want to make sure there isnt anything I might be missing info on.

Any advice is appreciated.

my homelink unit came out of a sunvisor of a Town Car, the homelink unit in my wife's Lexas RX 300 looks like the same unit, but pretty much any unit out of a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury product should be the same.

Where is your compass mirror from, is there a part number? Did you have to custom mount it? Any info is appreciated

If you get the garage thing to work. Let me know. That would be awesome.

it's a Ford unit, I got it out of a 2000 Grand Marquis that was totaled.

homelink unit works, wired into the map lamps, I can control the guard gate in the gated community where I live, my garage door and the third button controls my coach lamps outside of my house.

Partsbill - Does the homelink unit only require power and ground? Is the antenna self contained or is there another wire to run?

This is the only convenience that I miss coming from my previous car.

Thanks,

Thanks,
it's all self contained, only 2 wires (power & ground) which I tapped into in the console for the map lamps, no antenna to run.
