Now thats how you get aquainted with your baby! I did a 12hr stint to St. Louis through rain and snow and I had no problems. Best road trip to date. On the gas tip I averaged about 27 MPG @ 80 MPH. Not one cop stopped me and there were quite a few out.

You need to just let her loose once. You can hit 100+ before you leave some on ramps, I know I've seen me do it. Only 125 in mine so far.

Okay, time to answer some questions:

I got about 300 miles per tank on average, using somewhere around 200 gallons over the course of the trip.
The top speed was in South Dakota, where I ripped through some roads at a constant 110, maxing out on some straight aways at 135-140.
price of gas fluctuated a LOT. when i left Manhattan, Gas was over 3.50 for regular. by Iowa, gas was down to 2.50. it went back up the closer to the coast i got again. Man, i am going to miss filling up the tank for under 30 bucks.

thanks for all your comments! it was a real fun trip!

I just did a 1,500 mile round trip to from Florida (Tampa) to Tennessee (Knoxville) and back. Gas prices ranged between $2.599 and $2.699 for regular unleaded.
In one fillup, my car went 362.7 miles, DTE said 30 miles to empty, so that was my best total miles in one fillup ever.
My best MPG was 31.999, but that was because I was drafting behind an 18-wheeler, but it did get 26.917 MPG with out drafting so it still did pretty good for a V8. My worst was 24.972 MPG because I was doing a lot of city driving, but all in all, it was a good first road trip. I didn't get to test its top speed since it was the beginning of Memorial Day week and so there were a lot of Troopers, Sherrifs, and Police patrolling the interstates.
I would definitely do that road trip again.

Those were cool pictures dude. I know you had to wash her sometime in between towns though. We all know what a pain in the ass black is. But they are the toughest color out there in my opinion.

I took a drive from NJ - LA. Made it about 20 hours, almost non-stop driving minus stopping for food and rest room breaks. It was very enjoyable. I also did this at my 2,000 mile mark, and had changed my oil previous to leaving. Experienced rain, snow, ice... The stang performed flawlessly. I was impressed.
